  • TriAthlone 2009 - Lazy Race Report

TriAthlone gets better and better and better; this was my third time "attending" the race, but this time only as a spectator. It was a very enjoyable day.
  • TriAthy - Race Report

Scorching temperatures, a fierce kick in the face; on balance it was a pretty nice day at TriAthy 2009.
  • Emma Davis Finishes 37th in Beijing

Set your alarm clocks now! At 3am Irish time tomorrow, Emma Davis will become Ireland's first Olympic Triathlete as she competes in the Beijing 2008 games.
  • A Beginner’s Guide to Triathlon

This is a quick, hopefully useful Beginner's Guide to Triathlon. I've been competing in the sport for a couple of years and I wanted to put down a few hints and tips to help anybody thinking of giving Triathlon a try. We'll cover training, equipment and some race-day tips.
  • Escape from Alcatraz

I made it! The Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon was everything I hoped it would be; tough, fast, exciting. Hotter than I would have liked, but an absolutely great race. This is my full report of the lead up to the race, the race itself and the journey home.
  • Alcatraz

    Two weeks to go.
  • London City Triathlon Report

London lived up to the hype; it was a great race with over 9000 people competing over the two days of the race - officially the largest race in the world. Like Dublin, the weather in London has been dreadful this summer - except for this weekend when temperatures hit 30 degrees during the race. Luckily I was in the 7am wave, so I was out of the heat before it got too grim.
  • The Hell of the West

A race report from The Hell of the West Triathlon in Kilkee. It was a tough race to be honest; long cycle, cruel uphill run. But hey, I survived.
  • Blackrock Race Report

Last year I did my first race at Blackrock, so it was nice to come back this year to give it another go. It's not hard to see why a lot of people make this their first race; the race is incredibly well run with a short, shallow swim - and your race entry fee includes a post-race burger and a cracking view of the Cooley Peninsula from the beach; not a bad way to spend a day.
  • Better Luck Next Time

I wasn't picked in the random draw for the Escape from Alcatraz triathlon.

We've arrived, put the bikes back together, had a swim, cycled the run course and there's nothing left to do now but wait.

  • DNF

DNF. The three most terrifying letters in any athlete's alphabet. Did not finish. If finishing in a good time is the goal of the elite athlete, finishing at all is the goal of the beginner like me.
  • Fundraising

We're on the downhill slope to Chicago now, with a little under two months to go until the race. I'll be ramping up my training from this week, with one more sprint triathlon in a few weeks to prepare for.
  • Swimming, Race Results

I went for a swim last night, and then went swimming this morning as usual. Nothing too exciting to report.
  • I Made It

What a great day; I finished my first Triathlon in one piece!
  • Get Set for Triathlon

The nerves are jangling - only two days away from the Blackrock Sprint Triathlon. I'm resting up in advance of the race, so no swimming tomorrow. I had a physio session last night, again focusing on my left side and a twinge in my left shoulder I picked up at swimming on Tuesday.
  • Sunshine, Lolipops, Duathlon, Sunburn

It was a bank holiday weekend here this weekend, so I took it a little bit easier than usual. I had my feet measured and scanned on Saturday for insoles, which will hopefully put an end to the knee, back and leg pains that have been plaguing me.
  • Today I Swam 1800 Metres

My swimming is getting better every day. Thanks to the folks at Piranha for being total legends!
  • Running

Light physio exercises were the order of the day as I recovered from a twinge in my left leg. On the road to my first triathlon.

  • Good Friday Swimming

My legs were a bit stiff after the bag-packing last night; but the swimming went well today. When the coach told me to do a 200m warm-up I wasn't totally phased, but it was still a tough all-in-all. This week I was joined by Ed in the "technique" (beginner) lane, so it was good to have another person at a similar level.
